Virtual Reality refers to as VR technology, which is a comprehensive information technology originated in the 20th century, which has bright prospect in many areas. Virtual reality is used in the rolling equipment and the visualization simulation, which has provided an economical, quick, safe and effective experimental environment for modern design, improving existing equipment, creating new products, new technologies, training staffs, projects bidding and so on.This paper has referred to virtual reality technology and the basic principles of VRML(Virtual reality modeling language)and virtual reality modeling and its classification and methods. According to the characteristics of a factory environment and single strip mill, different modeling methods have been selected for different components. It is reasonable to get 3D models with 3D modeling software and then import using VRML nodes programming for huge and complicated parts, while it is appropriate to make 3D models with VRML shaping nodes for relatively simple parts.To enable visitors to get a fully experience with the virtual reality immersion and interactivity, this paper gets VRML nodes and JavaScript together to realize the control behavior of objects in the virtual scene, and basing on process visualization of the virtual rolling system, achieved four kinds of rolling runtime mode. And in order to enhance realism and immersion of the virtual scene to the visitors, adding sound nodes, self-roaming, collision detection, menu selection of basic interactive functions according to the actual situation.For the viewers, a realistic,detailed model gives the viewers a better sense of visual immersion, but taking the carrying capacity of the platform and displayed speed into account, a 3D virtual scene needs to achieve a balance between the realistic and show of the speed. This paper uses the mapping technology reference technology and a number of VRML-based optimization methods,without affecting the accuracy of models, make the virtual scene realistic and display speed to get a balance.
