Inorganic-organic hybrid borates possess intriguing variety of architectures and exhibit useful physical and chemical properties which have potential applications in modern technologies, and their synthesis is becoming an active area of solid state chemistry. In order to explore the influence of organic linkers on borates, various organic diamines, diols, and dihydroxies have been used as reactant under solvothermal conditions. In this thesis, four novel inorganic-organic hybrid borates and one reported inorganic-organic hybrid borate have been synthesized. Their crystal structures have been determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data and further characterized by element analysis, FT-IR spectrum, XRD, TGA and fluorescence spectrum.Compound B6O9(en)2@(H2en)Cl2(1) crystallizes in monoclinic crystal system and C2/c space group. a= 15.1032(16)A, b= 8.7460(10)A, c= 14.5672(15)A,α= 90°,β= 100.081(6)°,γ= 90°, Z= 4. The 3D framework is built up from neutral [B6O9] layers linked by ethylenediamine molecules via coordinative B-N bonds.Compound [C3H12N2]2[B1402o(OH)6] (2) crystallizes in triclinic crystal system and P-1 space group. a= 8.7960(2)A, b= 9.1503(2)A, c= 10.1844(2)A,α= 74.9410(10)°,β= 81.0140(10)°,γ= 7.4650(10)°, Z= 2. The crystal structure consists of the isolated [B1402o(OH)6]4- polyborate anion and [C3H12N2]2+ cations.Compound [C8H14N2]2[B1402o(OH)6] (3) crystallizes in triclinic crystal system and P-1 space group, a= 9.459(4)A, b= 9.961 (4)A, c= 10.373(4)A,α= 102.692(5)°,β= 104.167(4)°,γ= 102.952(5)°, Z= 2. The crystal structure consists of the isolated [B1402o(OH)6]4" polyborate anion and [C8H14N2]2* cations.Compound [(CH3)4N][B5O6(OH)4]·0.25H2O (4) crystallizes in monoclinic crystal system and P2(1)/c space group, a= 9.258(2)A, b= 16.943(4) A, c= 9.258(2) A,α= 90.00°,β= 96.43°,γ= 90.00°, Z= 4. The crystal structure consists of the isolated [B5O6(OH)4]- polyborate anion, H2O molecule, and [(CH3)4N]+cations.Compound [CsH6N]2[BsO6(OH)4]2·[CsHsN] (5) crystallizes in monoclinic crystal system and C2/c space group. a= 15.486(9)A, b= 11.590(6)A, c= 17.824(10)A,α= 90.00°,β= 110.465(6)°,γ= 90.00°, Z= 4. The crystal structure consists of the isolated [B5O6(OH)4]" polyborate anion, [C5H5N] molecule, and [C5H6N]+cations.
