In this thesis, six novel inorganic-organic hybrid borates and one novel inorganic borate havebeen synthesized under mild hydrothermal/solvothermal conditions. The crystal structures havebeen determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data and further characterized by X–raypowder diffraction, FT-IR spectrum, and simultaneous DTA-TG.(1) Inorganic-organic hybrid transition metal borates containing2-aminoethanol: two novelinorganic-organic hybrid transition metal polyborates, M{B6O7(OH)3[O(CH2)2NH2]3}(M=Co(1),Ni) have been synthesized under mild solvothermal conditions, and they are isomorphous.Compound1consists of an inorganic-organic hybrid {B6O7(OH)3[O(CH2)2NH2]3}2-anion and aCo2+cation. The Co2+cation is octahedrally coordinated by three N atoms from the organiccomponent and three O atoms covalently linking the B–O cluster and the organic component. The{B6O7(OH)3[O(CH22NH2]3}2-anion in compound1can be regarded as resulting from thedehydration reaction of three2-aminoethanol molecules with the three hydroxy groups in[B6O7(OH)6]2-B–O cluster. Molecules are connected via hydrogen bonding to form a3Dsupramolecular network.(2) Inorganic-organic hybrid transition metal borates containing ethylene glycol: a noveltransition metal polyborate, Co2{[B7(OH)3]2[O(CH22O]3}·6H2O (2) has been synthesizedunder mild solvothermal conditions. Compound2consists of an inorganic–organic hybrid{[B7(OH)3]2[O(CH22O]3}4-anion, two Co2+cations and six water molecules. The{[B7(OH)3]2[O(CH22O]3}4-anion can be regarded as resulting from the dehydration reaction ofthree ethylene glycol molecules with six hydroxy groups in two [B6O7(OH)6]2-anions. One of thetwo Co2+cations is sandwiched in the structure of {[B7(OH)3]2[O(CH22O]3}4-to form aCo{[B7(OH)3]2[O(CH22O]3}2-anion, the other one is octahedrally coordinated by six Oatoms from six water molecules. Molecules are connected via hydrogen bonding to form a3Dsupramolecular network.(3) Inorganic-organic hybrid transition metal borates containing tartaric acid: three newinorganic-organic hybrid transition metal borates, Mn5[(C4H2O62B]2·6H2O (3), NaCo2[(C4H2O62B]·H2O (4) and KCo2[(C4H2O62B]·3H2O (5) have been synthesized under mildhydrothermal conditions. These three compounds all have the [(C4H2O62B]5-building block, the [(C4H2O62B]5-building block can be regarded as resulting from the dehydration reactionof one boric acid molecule with two tartaric acid molecules. They are all3-dimensional structures.(4) Inorganic borates: a novel metal borate, Pb9B18O36(PbB2O4,6), has been synthesizedunder mild solvothermal conditions. Compound6is of3-dimensional open architecture, the open-framework structure of6have channels along a-axis, b-axis and c-axis.
