Nowadays, The technology of computer aided design is just used to work out 2D drawing and 3D modeling in middle-sized forging company. The forging process design is mostly depended on the experience of technicians, but not the using of CAPP (computer aided process planning). Prevailing method restricts further exaltation of the work efficiency and company development.Some companies have achieved economical benefits by the development and application of CAPP system. But the research of CAPP is mainly focused on the axis-symmetrical forges, while hard to be seen on special-shaped. Though half of forges are axis-symmetrical, the manufacturing of special-shaped is also very important, which can make more benefits and requires stricter skills.According to this background, the CAPP system for bowl hanging plate forges was established based on UG. Firstly, summarized the concept and developing condition of CAPP, and the application of UG secondary development tools. Then, introduced the forging process design of bowl hanging plates. At last, expatiated the detailed development process of bowl hanging plate CAPP system, and the particular development Procedures and realization of every module.This paper studies the CAPP system of bowl hanging plate forges by the using of UG secondary development tools——UG/Open, Visual C++, Database Techniques and Excel VBA. The main results are as follows:1. Accomplished the forging process design of bowl hanging plates;2. Realized the parametric modeling of bowl hanging plates;3. Realized the automatic creation of Engineering Graphics of bowl hanging plates, such as forging drawing and Craft Cards;4. Established the cost estimation system for bowl hanging plate forges, including weight calculation of forges, conformation of cost parameters and the automatic creation of quotation.The establishment of CAPP system for bowl hanging plate forges, can decrease repeated work greatly, save the time of forging process design, reduce the production cycle and ultimately improve the economic efficiency. At the same time, the establishment of the CAPP and research results in this paper can provide a reference for the further development of manufacturing automation.
