Cihu River in the north of the Ma Anshan, connected with the Yangtze River, is an important water body to the city, but the water quality of Cihu River is deteriorating by long term of pollution upstream. The main reason for pollution are mainly because of discharges from iron ore mining areas and untreated polluted water from companies. the life of local residents are negatively affected due to the contamination of Cihu Park and the pollution has become a standing problem to the local government, despite several rounds of pollution control in exchange for temporary amelioration. This research expounded on characteristics of surface runoff in a minor ore mining areas according to the concrete analyses of Xiangshan Town features upstream and we drew a conclusion that using artificial wetland technology is efficient in order to completely eradicate the problem of contaminated river. First and foremost, on the basis of Cihu River Surface Runoff Control Project, we analyzed various contributory factors relating to surface runoff according to hydrological and meteorological database of assumed areas, then we drew a conclusion of a plan on how to eradicate surface runoff pollution by comparison of various wastewater treatment techniques from related literature and practical experience.The main results of this study are as follows:â‘ The research found out the source and cause of pollution by investigation, analysis of research object, demonstrating that upstream area of Cihu River ,compared with other regions, is a mix of discrete point source and area source contaminationâ‘¡On the condition of the existing water distribution of Cihu River upstream, the region will be divided into spaces based on pollution levels, the less affected with a little engineering care or no care and the heavily affected with attentive care. Zoning control is more cost-effective, flexible and efficient, compared with uniformity control.â‘¢In the light of complexity of targeted terrain, especially in the mining field near the village, there is a high increase of surface runoff after a short time, so we adopted "pre-storing pond plus constructed wetland" in the sewage treatment process, with storage volume design half-year return period standard.â‘£Artificial wetlands by adding the concept of wetland landscape design can be an attraction for leisure and entertainment to local residents, creating an integrated wetland landscape park for entertainment, tourism, education or scientific research, as well as surface runoff pollution control.
