With the rapid development of GIS and computer technology,3D modeling technology has been widely applied in the geological field, which has already become an important direction of research in 3D GIS, digital mine and mineral resources exploration. A 3D geological model with high quality plays an important role in scientific management and engineering decision-making for managers. It undoubtedly has important practical value and development prospect in visual simulation and research of mineral resources by using 3D geological modeling technology. In this paper, on the basis of analyzing the current research situation of 3D geological modeling and according to the limitation of signal model, a mixed 3D geological modeling is presented based on triangulation (TIN), generalized tri-prism (GTP) and tetrahedron (TEN), and the construction, application and visualization of this model are studied.1. The geological data is preprocessed and the inverse distance weighted(IDW) interpolation method has been used to encrypt drilling data. On this basis, a improved incremental insertion algorithm is used to do Delaunay triangulations, and the geological surface model is generated.2. GTP model in the internal of geological body is built by linking triangle surface vertically. The heterogeneity GTP is decomposed into smaller homogeneous GTP, then splits GTP to TEN which is taken as the basic unit in geological modeling and studying geological characters. The data structures and the algorithm needed in model construction is put forwarded, which is based on some geometric topology elements such as point, edge, TIN surface, triangular prism, tetrahedron and so on. 3. The 3D visualization model of geological body is realized with VC++ and OpenGL, and its application in geological reserve estimation is studied.
