The active lime which have little crystal particles, large surface area and faster chemical reaction is widely used in steelmaking process. The rotary kiln is the main production equipment of active lime. Rotary kiln has large amount of corollary equipment and complicated technology. The parameters of calcinations system in rotary kiln directly affect the activity degree of clinkers' production and quality. So it's necessary to build a set of on-line monitoring and fault diagnosis system to ensure stability operation of the rotary kiln system.At the first, this article analyzed the affects of calcining process and parameters on the clinker's active degree. This article uses a calcination experiment to explain the relationship of sintering zone's temperature and the product's active degree. By the analysis of calcining process of active lime, we could explicit measurement range and accuracy of every parameter that helps to choose proper sensor.Our major job is to build an on-line monitoring system. The on-line monitoring system include 4 parts:Data Collection, Data Transmission, Data Display and Data Storage.Exception the firing zone temperature, the on-line monitoring system use Simatic S-200 series PLC with EM231 analog input module to acquire parameter data. The firing zone temperature is calculated by the picture captured by CCD camera.We use industrial Ethernet to transmit parameter data. In the hardware aspect, every S7-200 PLC extended with CP 243-1 Ethernet module access to the Ethernet. In the software aspect, the main monitor program uses OPC server which provided by SIMATIC NET tools to request and send parameter information.The monitor program are written by C#. And we use the windows bitmaps to draw the parameter curves. Besides, we use ADO.Net technology to store parameter data into SQLite database.At the end of this article, we designed an expert system in monitory system. Expert system are used to fault diagnosing. Expert system based fault diagnosis has faster diagnosis speed, more accurate than traditional method which depend on the experience of the worker. The expert system gui are coded by C#, and the expert kernel designed by CLIPS expert system tools. C# gui program uses three-party tools'ClipsNet'to create connection with the expert kernel.The on-line monitoring system is built with modularized structure, enhanced monitoring system's versatility and portability and has a good prospect.
