In this paper B stage Condensed Polynuclear Aromatics (COPNA) resin has been synthesized by the condensation reaction, in which naphthalene or anthracene oil were used as the synthetic unit, benzaldehyde was used as the cross-linking agents,p-toluenesulfonic acid or concentrated H2SO4 as the catalyst. The resin products were characterized by different methods such as FT-IR, TG, Molecular weight mensuration and so on. The fundamental properties of the resin products were made sure such as the basic configuration, the component, the thermal stability, the average molecular weight and so on. The reaction conditions were studied by experiments, which were the catalyst dosage, the content of the cross-linking agent, the reaction temperature and the reaction time. The influential results of the reaction conditions were obtained to the performances of the resin products. The fitting reaction conditions were made sure. C stage COPNA of Anthracene oil were prepared when B stage COPNA of Anthracene oil were solidified by high temperature treatment. The performances of the C stage COPNA were tested and characterized. The experimental results of the catalysts indicated that concentrated H2SO4 were appropriated for the catalyst of the synthesis of the COPNA resin. The experimental results to the synthesis of B stage Naphthalene COPNA resin indicated that the best reaction conditions were the catalyst (concentrated H2SO4) dosage 5%, the mol ratio of the cross-linking agent and Naphthalene 1.5:1, the reaction temperature 170℃and the reaction time 3h. The results of the characteristic experiments indicated that the performances of B stage Naphthalene COPNA product were respectively the soft point 110℃, the carbon residue 38%, the yield 95%, the average molecular weight 2828.The best synthetic conditions of B stage Anthracene oil COPNA were the catalyst (concentrated H2SO4) dosage 5%, the content of the cross-linking agent 51%, the reaction temperature 140℃and the reaction time 4h. The results of the characteristic experiments indicated that the performances of B stage Anthracene oil COPNA product were respectively the soft point 138℃, the carbon residue 48%, the yield 77.23%, the average molecular weight 4920.B stage Anthracene oil COPNA had better thermal stability, more carbon residue and bigger average molecular weight, which compared with B stage Naphthalene COPNA. B stage Anthracene oil COPNA was more effectual to be used in the synthesis of C stage COPNA resin by the high temperature solidification. The performances of C stage Anthracene oil COPNA resin were separately the carbon residue 57%, the original decomposition temperature 400℃, the soft point>160℃.
