Coke plant wastewater is a kind of industrial wastewater containing toxic organic substance. The coke plant wastewater is rich in hydroxybenzene and other complicated organic components. For wastewater treatment, Activated carbon adsorption is one of mature and effective methods. The experiment of adsorbing the coke plant wastewater from a coke plant in Henan with lignite activated carbon was studied. The surface area, pore volume, pore size of the lignite activated carbon, and adsorption performance were analyzed at the beginning. And then, Static test, dynamic test and pilot test were carried out to analyze the adsorbing factors of the lignite activated carbon; at the same time, the adsorbing mechanism of lignite activated carbon to coke plant wastewater had been analyzed and studied mainly based on thermodynamics and dynamics. The results show that the lignite activated carbon has an excellent adsorption with coke plant wastewater, and it will have a bright future in coke plant wastewater treatment.
