The brakes of motors play an important role in motors'safe driving. The flatness of the brakes'steel back is an important error indicator in form and position tolerances, influencing the quality of motors'brakes. Considering the low accuracy and inefficiency of the conventional manual dial method in the flatness measurement for brakes employed in the factories, the author of the thesis hereby proposes an automatic flatness measurement system that can accurately and quickly achieve the flatness measurement of the brakes'steel back.Based on a comparison of various current flatness measurement methods, this paper proposes to utilize pneumatic measurement in the flatness measurement system for the brakes'steel back. The paper analyzes the pneumatic measuring principle in detail, compares the merits and demerits of various pneumatic measurement gas circuits, and approves the differential pressure measurement gas circuit. Building a flatness detection system according to the principles and requirements of the differential pressure measurement involves the handling of compressed air, the selection of differential pressure sensors, the design and data processing of conditioning circuit, with the emphasis on the design of a pneumatic gauge head for this system. The steps are: first, using empirical formula to design the structure and parameters of the pneumatic gauge head theoretically, then using COMSOL multi-physics modeling software in simulative calculation to analyze the influences of such parameters as different work pressures, varied pore diameters of main nozzles and the diameter measurement of nozzles upon theΔp -S curve, and finally optimizing the structure and parameters of the pneumatic gauge head.In the concluding part, the paper carries out experimental researches of single-probe characteristic curve and multi-probe combination flatness measurement respectively, and makes an analysis of the error source. The experimental results and error analysis prove that this automatic flatness measurement system is of high precision and reliable stability as opposed to the conventional manual dial method, and can be employed in industrial production. The error detection in straightness and flatness of similar parts can be easily achieved by changing the parameters of the pneumatic gauge head.
