Sheet-fed offset press is very sophisticated, and it is a symbol of the modern technical precision and level among printing equipments. In order to keep the synchrony among the printing units, as well as between the feeding device and the printing unit, and reach higher printing efficiency and quality, the higher demands for the transmission mode and its precision are needed. Shaftless driver is an advanced transmission mode, which can solve the problem of synchrony in the high-precision printing line. With the study the application of. shaftless transmission to the sheet-fed offset press and the key technical knowledge about the precise and reliable transformation among all the units, for example, shaftless feeding device, each separate driver of printing plate , watering, or inking, the accuracy of feeding and transformation can be improved effectively. At the same time, the adjustment time is reduced on account of higher efficiency and the press quality is improved. After having studied and summed up the common characteristics of the international application of shaftless transmission to gravure machine, flexo press, rotary offset printing press, especially to sheet-fed offset press, the author focus on the application to sheet-fed offset press under the existing conditions and puts forward both a reference to the further application of shaftless driver to sheet-fed offset press line and a practical reconstruction and design scheme of the traditional sheet-fed offset press.This article explains the basic technical principles and the advantages about the shaftless device in detail, which refers to the security, stability, precise transmission, simple structure, convenience of maintenance and conversion or adjustment,. The key technical issues about the shaftless driver used in sheet-fed offset press line, such as performance characteristics, control theory, the required hardware of control system, electronic gear, electronic cam, encoder, bus-mastering technology, etc. are also studied and elaborated. With the application of shaftless device to sheet-fed offset press, this article tells the demands for the functional requirements of the hardware units, and the role and form of electronic gear, electronic cam, the encoder, and the bus-mastering configuration and program of shaftless transmission. This article introduces the application scheme of shaftless drive to each part in sheet-fed offset press line, and the reconstructed project of the control of watering inking and the feeding unit for the traditional sheet-fed offset press with mechanical shaft drive. The author not only gives an assessment about the efficiency after reconstruction, but also puts forward his views on the trend of application of shaftless device to sheet-fed offset press, which needs further research in the future.Considering to the interchangeabilty, the shaftless transmission system made in German Rexroth Company is adopted in this study, which is in accordance with international standards. And the study starts from the simple to sophisticated reconstruction: firstly the control of pelton roller, ink fountain roller, feeding device, each parts of sheet-fed offset press unit with a separate servo motor driver stepwisely; then the synchrony among all the separate servo motor drivers to have a shaftless transmission system successfully., The study has a good combination between theory and practice, as well as between research and technical innovation in practice. The achievement is scientific, advanced and practical via the continual enrichment and optimization in practice.
