The research on a general variation principle for web offset press while it is running is carried out in this paper. The mathematical model for tension control is established in this paper. Based on the mathematical model and Matlab software, the tension control system simulation program is developed. The main contents and innovations items are as follows:1. The research of web offset press system is carried including analyzing the factors which affecting tension variation and presenting one method how to adjust tension variation.2. Based on the theory of physics and material mechanics, this paper analyses the variation principle of the paper ribbon tension between each printing unit; establishes the mathematic model of unwinding, tension variation between each printing unit and the dynamics model of the dancer rollers. These models provide a theory for analyzing the variety of paper ribbon tension.3. Based on the simulink toolbox in Matlab software, a simulation system of the mathematic model is developed. The simulation results show that the mathematic model is correct. Meanwhile, the simulationsystem can offer a theoretical basis for designing actual control system.In this paper, the web tension variation regularity is studied based on the printing test-bed with shiftless driver in printing. This paper offers the basis for establishing the tension control of web press. It is very significant for improving the speed and quality of web press and reducing the difference between domestic press and oversea advanced press.
