Well inclination is a technical problem in the oil and gas exploration, seriously hindering the process of oil and gas development. Automatic vertical drilling tool can ensure a vertical wall, at the same time effectively release drilling pressure, which can be well applied in oil and gas exploration of high and steep stratigraphic in western China. Hydraulic guiding system is the key component of automatic vertical drilling tools, shouldering the important task of providing guiding force, and it's meaningful to study its dynamic performance.In this paper, it describes the research significance and status of automatic vertical drilling tool, and introduced the working principle of self-developed automatic vertical drilling tool, as well as the working principle and structure of hydraulic guiding system. It established the mathematical model of hydraulic guiding system's components through theoretical analysis, and used simulation software MATLBA6.5 to analysis the hydraulic system, the result showed that the hydraulic system can provide a stable guiding force and satisfy the orientation requirement. It planned pilot program to test the system, and the test results were similar to simulation results, which verified the system model was accurate. It raised solutions in theory for each problem which came from the indoor loading test and spot drilling of hydraulic guiding system, such as guide pad return issues, piston plunger eccentric wear, difficulties of raised drill, and optimized the structure of manifold block.
