In this paper, a new type of gas generating agent with insensitive energetic materialLLM-105 as the fuel for automobile safety airbag was studied. Through the closed bomb testand theory analysis, it is hoped that the new gas generating agent can meet the requirementsof automobile safety airbag with its fine combustion characteristicsThe ignition ability for gas-forming composition of BaO2/Mg and B/KNO3 ignitioncompositions were measured. The experimental results indicate that the ignition delay time ofgas generating agent ignited by ignition agent BaO2/Mg is shorter than B/KNO3.The impact of the molding size change on burning rate of gas generating agent wasstudied. The result shows that when the weight and density of gas generating agent are fixed,the bigger the total specific surface area of sample is, the faster the gas generating agentburns.The influence of using six different ratios of NH4NO3 and KClO4 as oxidants oncombustion properties of gas generating agent with zero-oxygen balance was discussed. Theresults show that the combustion rate and combustion heat of samples decreases with thedecreasing content of KClO4, while the gas production increases with the increasing contentof NH4NO3 in compositions. Furthermore the best ratio of composite oxidant is fixed.By the experimental research and theoretic analysis,a composition of the gas generatingagent is defined with 36.35% LLM-105, 38.82% ammonium nitrate,11.78% potassiumperchlorate, 4.55% phase-stable additive, 3.5% copper oxide and 5% solvable fluorine rubber.The results show that the higher burning rates, the lower burning temperature and the largervolume product of this kind of gas generating agent can meet the requirements of automobilesafety airbag.It is a new type of gas generating agent, which the combustible agent is a insensitiveenergetic material. The study about this kind of gas generating agent is an innovation indomestic and overseas field. The results of this research can offer new ideas for the study ofgas generating agent with higher safety and better reliability of storage for automobile airbag.
