Acrylate polymer emulsion adhesive is one of the important applications for emulsion polymerization. Based on the research status of acrylate emulsion adhesive of non-woven fabrics-used acrylate adhesives for shoe manufacturing, a large amount of work concerning to this field has been performed in this thesis. Synthesis of styrene-acrylate copolymer latex and manufacture of bottom shoe pad with copolymer latex is studied on a series of factors and their influence to the final product. Chemical engineering principles are used to analyze the current polymerization process and the methods to improve. We have been provided the technical guidance o resolve the practical problems from the industry. And have been provided reference and mentality for further scientific research about emulsion polymerization.The measurements such as FTIR and DSC were employed to characterize the structure of polymer. Combine the test of the coagulation rate, solid content, conversion and water absorption ratio of styrene-acrylate emulsion adhesive, with the test of rigidity and water absorption of bottom shoe pad. Eventually, the improvement of the properties of styrene-acrylate emulsion and bottom shoe pad are achieved by improving the optimistic monomer, emulsifier, initiator and process of the before recipe.The main results include that:(1) Has determined a set of optimized recipe and the fine technological operation as the experimental program finally. We take the continuous craft which combine the pre-emulsion process with the seed emulsion polymerization. The proportion of monomer is St/MMA/BA/MA=45/15/10/42; Functionality monomer AA and NMA account for 3%; Uses the duplicate emulsifier DB-45 and OP-10, and the proportion is m (DB-45)/m (OP-10)=3/1. (2) We have carried on the enlargement experiment in the factory by utilizing our laboratory experimental conclusion.And we made the bottom shoe pad utilize the styrene-acrylate emulsion which we studied on and one which is provided by factory separately. We also have compared these tow products according to some property tests. The results show that the properties of bottom shoe pad which we studied on are better than samples which are provided by factory.
