Nowadays, along with the technology development and the improvement of living standard, people tend to pursue the healthy and eco-friendly living. The fabrics with antibacterial property were paid great attention by more and more people. Therefore, the development of safety non-toxicity, durable and universality antibacterial finishing methods was beneficial to improvement of living standards.In this paper, two representative fabrics including hydrophilic cotton fabrics and super-hydrophobic polyester fabrics were endowed antibacterial activity through ecological methods.In this method, the fabrics were firstly modified by dopamine and then treated with AgNO3 in an aqueous medium under room temperature. Dopamine was utilized as the binding agent and reductant. It realized one step dipping process prepared antibacterial fabrics loaded with silver nanoparticles without other reductant.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction were used to investigate the state of silver. The membrane structure of polydopamine and the particle size distribution of AgNPs were studied by Scanning Electron Microscope and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope. Then the influencing factors of the content of silver on the fabrics were discussed. The washing fastness and durable antibacterial activity were further studied.It was confirmed that a lot of silver nanoparticles with diameter of 80-90nm were distributed uniformly on the surface of antibacterial fabrics. The content of silver on the surface of fabrics was increased with the concentration of dopamine or silver nitrate solution. Though the retention rate was low, the content of AgNPs decreased slowly and sustained relatively steady after washed ten times. The research of antibacterial activity indicated that the fabrics loaded with silver nanoparticles owned the excellent antibacterial activity.This paper realized the antibacterial finishing of the different fabrics with one dipping processes, which put the foundation for the universality of antibacterial finishing.
