The effects of the opening size, structure and the interlaced elastic yarns upon the pressure comfort of the socks'opening were studied.Firstly, a survey on the pressure comfort of women's socks was carried out. It was revealed that there was 87.3%of the people wore cotton socks frequently, and 74%of them thought that the pressure at the opening part of the socks was stronger than a little tight. Secondly, the leg circumference sizes of 200 women who were 20-30 years old were measured. It was found that the the average of the leg circumferences at the level of 13cm above the sole of the feet was 21.38cm. And most of the leg circumferences were in the range from 20cm to 23cm. The distribution was basically a normal distribution.Twelve types of cotton socks with different opening size, structure and interlaced elastic yarns were manufactured. And 24 women were chosen as the subjects and were devided into three different groups according to the leg circumference to take part in pressure test and subjective assessment on pressure comfort. It was found that the pressure of the socks with the structure of 2×1 was heavier than the socks with the structure of 1×1. The interlaced elastic yarn had a big effect on the pressure of sock's opening. The pressure of the socks with spandex core interlaced yarn was less than that of the socks with latex core interlaced yarn. There was no significant difference between the socks of opening sizes 6.0cm and 6.5cm, but there was significant difference between the socks of opening sizes 6.5cm and 7.0cm. Moreover, a linear relationship was obtained between the subjectively evaluated pressure score and the objectively measured pressure:Y=1.044+0.754X.Next, the subjective evaluation on the pressure comfort of socks opening was carried out in daily wearing conditions. It was found that the feel of pressure became smaller and smaller with the time, and it became stable after four hours later.Lastly, the low stress tensile properties of the elastic yarns and the socks openings were tested. It was founc that under the same elongation, the tensile forces of the socks openings with 1×1 structure were smaller than those of 2×1 structure. And the tensile forces of the socks openings with spandex core interlaced yarn were lower than those of the socks openings with latex wire core interlaced yarn. Under the same elongation, the bigger the tensile force was, the bigger the presseure was.Based on lots of work on wear trials, the effects of the interlaced elastic yarns and other factors on the pressure comfort at the socks opening part were studied in this thesis. It might provide an idea and method for further research.
