In the current times of pursuing fashion and personality, socks are called "fashionable dress of feet", whose purpose no longer lies in the traditional ways of keeping warm and comfortable. As people’s requirement of pattern and style of socks gets higher, design of socks is of great importace and design concepts have become an key factor for pursuing added value of socks. CAD system of socks which only focus on pattern design has failed to meet demand of our times given the wide use of computer3D technology. Socks are one kind of three dimensional knitted fabrics in a strict sense, while current CAD system of socks is mainly ued for two dimensional notation design, seldom involves3D research of socks or related software. So it is necessary to develop3D simulation system of socks. It could promote development of sock industry in our nation, as the largest manufacturing and exporting country, by raising quality, enhancing competitiveness and strengthening design capability.Three dimensional modeling and simulation of Jacquard socks is studied in this paper in accordance with present situation above. A three dimensional simulation system of socks with centain applied value is developed after research on modeling and texture of fabric structure by graphics interface software OpenGL in the environment of Visual C++program language.While in three dimensional modeling of socks, outline of socks is gained by projection of sock model and feature point is extracted according to different shapes of sock positions. Whole3D model of socks is divided into pieces considering the position of feature points, each piece is built by one Bezier curve. Meanwhile, this paper realizes three display mode to show the shape of3D socks:outline,point and fill display mode.The structure texture function in simulation system sets up fabric structure texture in sock positions, especially in stocking leg and top position.This paper completes simulation of structure design in sock top and Jacquard pattern in different regions of stocking leg by setting texture coordinates for each point in Bezier curve when constructing3D model with different Bezier curves, assuring each fabric structure corresponde to the position of socks. Rotation, zoom and vertical movement of3D model of socks can be realized by model-control function of simulation system, allowing user to observe three dimensional shape and texture effect of socks in different angles. Meanwhile, this simulation system supplies changes in height and stucture texture of both stocking leg and top position, which expands range of application and strengthens flexibility.This simulation system accomplishes modeling and structure texture of socks, whose most important achievement is the structure texture in specified region of socks. It fills the gaps in the research of socks in3D direction and promotes the development of CAD system of socks.
