Pharmaceutical industry is one of the main parts of the national economy, being responsible for the people's health and the quality of life. Water pollution caused by pharmaceutical wastewater becomes more and more serious due to the rapid development of pharmaceutical industry. It seemed necessary to apply advanced technologies for pharmaceutical wastewater treatment and reform present wastewater treatment plants, to meet the requirements of the six new discharge standards of pharmaceutical wastewater, such as Discharge Standards of Water Pollutants for Pharmaceutical Industry Fermentation Products Category (GB 21903-2008). There are great differences in the wastewater treatment technologies in pharmaceutical industry at present and it was important to select feasible, economic and efficient technologies for pharmaceutical wastewater treatment.In this thesis, a practical, fair and scientific assessment system of pharmaceutical wastewater treatment technologies was provided based on the methods of the analytical hierarchy process and the theory of fuzzy mathematics, considering the status of wastewater treatment in pharmaceutical industry. The assessment system was used to analyze the existing wastewater treatment technologies and to find out the best available technology. Then it could contribute to the technician for wastewater treatment construction in pharmaceutical industry. Results obtained in this research were as follows. (1) The index system for the assessment model was structured using analytical hierarchy process and Delphi software, based on the status investigation of the wastewater treatment in pharmaceutical industry and the popular assessment methods for wastewater treatment. The targets of the index system included the quality of water environment, economy, technology, people's health and ecological conservatory. There were 11 first-level indices and 23 second-level indices in the system.(2) The value of each index was calculated by analytical hierarchy process and expert counseling method. The obtained weight values of economy index, technology index, environmental safety index and social benefit index were 0.4804,0.2980,0.1842 and 0.0374. respectively. Then the membership functions were established to realize qualification of these indices, using fuzzy synthetically assessment. Finally, the assessment model of wastewater treatment in pharmaceutical industry was constructed.(3) 16 treatment processes of fermentation pharmaceutical wastewater were investigated results indicated that the top three processes were "Hydrolysis Acidification-IC-SBR", "Coagulating Sediment-UASB-A/O-A/O" and "Floatation-HydrolysisAcidification-A/O2-SMBR",according to optimal assessment of comprehensive indices.
