The high-speed motor spindle, as the core component of high-speed machine tools, is also the main heat source of them. In high-speed machine tools, the stiffness and accuracy of each component of the motor spindle unit is very high, while the workload is not large. The machining errors of motor spindles caused by the cutting force is relatively small. However, the heat caused by the motor and the friction of bearings is inevitable. These heat sources can cause thermal deformation of the motor spindle and bearings, thus affecting the machining accuracy. This defect greatly limits the development and application of high-speed motor spindles. Currently one of the main aspects of the research on motor spindles is to improve their thermal characteristics so as to reduce their temperature and ease the thermal deformation. First, this thesis analyses the structural characteristics and thermolysis of motor spindles, then analyses the heating of motors. Besides, it also applies the partial method to analyse the friction heating of bearings and provides the caculating method of the thermal load and thermal boundary conditions of motor spindles. Finally, the thermal characteristic of motor spindles in this thesis is analysed by ANSYS finite element software and experiments are carried out to verify its accuracy. Experiments show that using the partial method to caculate the friction heating of bearings is very reliable, which provides accurate thermal load for the research on the temperature field of motor spindles. To improve the thermal characteristic of motor spindles, it proposes three measures: The first one is to increase air forced convection heat transfer of the motor and the main supporting part of the axial;the second one is to adapt cold air cooling for the spindle axis;the third one is that making the oil flow in the cooling tank turbulent to improve the heat transfer capabilities of spiral cooling tank fluid and structure boundary.
