The studies of high-speed & high precision machine tools become more profound while higher speed and precision are required for machine tools in manufacturing industry. The high-speed & high-precision machine tool shall have a high spindle rotating speed and feed speed and high-precision,and its components need good dynamic and thermodynamic properties to guarantee. Therefore it is very significant to study the performance of the main spindle system of the machine tool, establish a dynamic model for the spindle unit and evaluate its performance during the design in order to improve the design quality of machine tool products.This article focuses on jiangxi provincial key project of"Research & Development for High-speed & High-precision CNC Lathe"in the study. The GSCK200A tipe High-speed & high-precision CNC Lathe have manufactured by Nanchang Kaixin High Precision Machine Co,and it's in commissioning phase currently. The paper is further study based on previous design and manufacture of the project. It studies the dynamic and thermal performance of the machine tool spindle. This paper also make necessary verifiation for the theoretical model based on actual situation. This paper consists of the following.(1) This paper summarizes and analyzes the development trend of high speed cutting & peeling and high-speed machine tool. It also studies the technical development and application in foreign countries and its domestic development. The major technical factors for the development of high-speed machine tool and issues to be solved for the development of high speed machine tool in China are also analysed.(2) his paper analyzes the various model establishment for dynamic characteristics of the spindle unit and their advantages/disadvatages. It researches on the dynamic characteristics of the spindle system by finite element method.(3) This paper establishes the three-dimensional limited element model for the elements of XX type high speed machine tool spindle. The characteristics of the major elements of the spindle unit are obtained by adopting the limited element analysing software ANSYS for the study. The result is also verified on actual situation.(4) This paper studies the performance of thermal transmission of the spindle, analyzes the thermal data of the spindle system. The thermal model for the spindle is established and analyzed by finited element analysis method.Through the thermal and structure coupling analysis on the High-speed & high-precision CNC Lathe spindle and bearing, this article research on the thermal deformation and stress of High-speed & high-precision CNC Lathe spindle unit.(5) This paper optimizes the key parts of spindle unit,and provides reasonable scheme which can improve High-speed & high-precision CNC Lathe spindle unit stucture and stiffness.This paer offers theoretical basis and support for the sucessful design and development of GSCK200A type high speed machine tool. Moreover it can be a significant reference and experience for future development and application of digital machine tool design.
