As a new generation of green and environment-friendly coating, water-based epoxy resin coating generally has lots of outstanding features such as low volatile organic compound (VOC), fireproofing and high security. It can greatly solve the pollution problems which were brought about by traditional epoxy resin coating. Besides its excellent comprehensive property, some performances generally approach or even surpass those of traditional epoxy resin coating. It has great competition in the market, so it attracts more and more attention. However, it still has some defects such as weak waterproofing, low flexibility and impact resistance which need to improve. This thesis focused on the toughening of traditional epoxy resin and several problems in the preparation of water-based epoxy resin coating. We started the research from designing the molecular structure of the emulsifiers and use amino-terminated poly(ethylene glycol) compounds which including both rigid phenyl and flexible poly(ethylene glycol) segment to prepare nonionic type active waterborne epoxy resin emulsifiers. The combination properties of emulsifiers were studied, and one of which was applied in the preparation of water-based epoxy antistatic coating.Three novel nonionic types of active waterborne epoxy resin emulsifiers (PEGE51/PEGE44/PEGF51) containing hydrophilic polyether segment were prepared through reacting propylene oxide modified p-methoxypolyethylene glycol benzylamine (PO-p-MPEGBA) with three kinds of epoxy resin (E51/E44/F51). The molecular structures of the three emulsifiers were analyzed via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The similarities and differences of the three emulsifiers were compared in the thesis, in which PEGE51 performed the best emulsifying capacity, and was easily prepared with low cost. The influence of PEGE51 concentration on the average diameter and stability of PEGE51/E51 emulsions, the mechanical properties and water absorption of the D230-PEGE51/E51 cured products was investigated. The results showed that PEGE51 performed high emulsifying efficiency to E51 and waterborne epoxy emulsions ware available when PEGE51 concentration was over 6%. When increasing the concentration of PEGE51, the average diameter of dispersed phase particles rapidly decreased first and slightly increased later. The smallest particle size and quite stable PEGE51/E51 emulsions were obtained when the concentration of PEGE51 was 9%, meantime the D230-PEGE51/E51 cured products showed excellent mechanical properties and low water absorption at room temperature. The emulsifier PEGE51 was also applied to the preparation of waterborne epoxy antistatic coating. The influence of curing agents type and content of some components and the coating thickness on the performance of antistatic coating was studied. The results showed that proper spray paint was available when choosing the home-made amino-terminated polyether as a curing agent, the water content between 40% to 65%, conductive powder content between 20% to 25% and with thickness of 60pm. When cement:water:powder=2:8:3(mass rate), smooth water-based epoxy anti-static coating was obtained with surface resistivity 3.5MΩ, impact resistance over 50kg·cm, flexibility lmm, adhesion grade 1, pencil hardness 3H, water absorption about 4.3%, which was expected to achieve engineering applications.
