With the progress in automobile manufacturing, automotive panels forming quality has become increasingly valued by automobile manufactures. Reduction and elimination of defects is of great significance to mold design optimization, improving auto manufacturing level and, accelerating the development of new automobile models, so it has been a focus of research in automotive industry. Surface soft defect is one of the main stamping defects. Therefore, developing independent sheet metal forming CAE software with surface soft function has great practical significance.Traditional CAE software can only provide a rough defect prediction by contour defects levels, without giving complete qualitative and quantitative analysis and solutions. In order to expand the scope of CAE software application, this paper develops surface soft defect analysis module of sheet metal forming for post-processing files. The main work is listed as follow:(1) The surface soft stamping defect analysis program is formulated based on universal forming theory, taking practical engineering analysis and the usage of current mainstream stamping analysis software into consideration. Universal forming theory, which is establish on practical engineering experience, can describe quality of stamping parts and shape forming accurately, naturally, and generate results closer to the actual engineering results.(2) Surface soft analysis module is developed on COMX platform according to the analysis program. In accordance with the software development process, this paper gives the key algorithms, interface design and operation for each process. The module can analysis surface soft defect and give solution which meet the needs of engineering solution. The mechanism of surface soft defect are mainly low deformation and non-uniform deformations, accordingly through adjusting strain and strain gradient the solving process is attained.(3) An automobile front door part is analyzed using the module to eliminate surface soft defect. Using the given solutions, the parameters in DYNAFORM are improved, and the potential defect problem is solved, which verifies the reliability of the module.
