As the most important synthetic fiber, polyester fiber is also one of the most widely used fiber in textile fibers, its production is close to cotton. Disperse dyes is the most important dyes in dyeing polyester fibers, especially the azo-based disperse dyes have wide range of applications because of its outstanding coloring intensity and easy manufacturing process. However, the azo-based disperse dyes have some shortcomings when dyeing polyester fibers, such as low exhaust dyeing rate, poor thermo-migration property, sublimation fastness can not reach requirements. In this thesis, for the above problem, and according to similar structures always show high affinity between fivers and dyes, two series azo dyes containing different length alkyl chain were designed and synthesized, and used in thermosol dyeing polyester fiber. It is expected that these dyes have good dyeing properties on polyester fiber.DyeR-1 was synthesized by diazotization and coupling reaction from 4-nitroaniline and N-(3-(diethylamino)phenyl)acetamide, and DyeR-2 was get by hydrolyzing DyeR-1 under acidic conditions, then three red disperse dyes containing different length alkyl chain were synthesized from DyeR-2 with different alkyl chlorides. The structures of the compounds were characterized by MS,1H NMR, FTIR and UV-visible spectra.DyeB-1 was synthesized from 2-chloro-4,6-dinitroaniline via diazotization in H2SO4 and coupling reaction with N-(3-(diallylamino)-4-methoxyphenyl)acetamide, and DyeB-2 was get by hydrolyzing DyeB-1 under acidic conditions, then three blue disperse dyes containing different length alkyl chain was synthesized from DyeB-2 with different alkyl chloride. The structures of the compounds were characterized by MS, 1H NMR, FTIR and UV-visible spectra. The two series dyes were applied to polyester fiber in high-temperature thermosol dyeing. The effect of thermosol dyeing temperature for the dyes on the fixation rate was studied. The results showed that the fixation rate increased as the dyeing temperature increasing, and the introduction of proper alkyl chain to the dye molecules can markedly increase the dyeing properties because of the improvement of dye affinity with fiber. And the dyes containing longer alkyl chain have better sublimation fastness.
