Thermosetting phenolic resin, with excellent heat resistance and mechanical properties-self-extinguishing, low smoke, flame penetration resistant, fire-free drip, low cost, is applied to subway safety escape platform, yet needs further retardant treatment. While, as for thermosetting resin, researches mainly focused on the heat-resistant modification that introduced special element or functional group into its molecular structure which cannot meet the requirement of the retardant properties of the subway tunnel safe evacuation platform. With differential thermal analysis as the main means of research, the thermal properties of common flame retardants-ATH, MH, EG, IFR, FB, P and SI as well as phenolic resin are studied, according to DTA curve shape, position and apparent exothermic peak value, the thermal properties of multiple compounded flame retardants are evaluaded; with the help of oxygen index test, the vertical flame test and smoke test, we studied the combustion properties of flame retardants; molding and pultrusion process of phenolic resin are also studied. The present study shows that:(1) As for the phenolic resin, EG has better heat-resistant effect in the higher temperature area; IFR has better heat-resistant effect in the lower temperature area; ATH, MH and FB has a good smoke suppression effect; SI could greatly increase the phenolic resin's density of smoke when burned.(2) compounded flame retardants-ATH/MH/EG/IFR (1:1:1:1) and ATH/MH/EG/FB (8:8:8:1) can achieve better retardant properties.(3) DTA could be used in the study of combustion and fire resistance of resin, and apparent exothermic peak value could be used to evaluate resin's heat-resistant properties.
