In this paper, the synthesis and application of epoxy phosphate performance were studied.The phosphorylation of epoxy resin was a new way to synthetic water dispersions-soluble epoxy resin. The conditions of the phosphorylation was studied in this paper, we discussed the influence of reaction temperature, time and molar ratio on the reaction. The best synthesis process of epoxy phosphate was found through the orthogonal experiment.Then the epoxy phosphate was characterized by IR. The water disperdions of epoxy resin was tested.Finally, the optimum concentration and adsorption amount of epoxy phosphate salt (EPS) modifying PAN-based carbon fiber (CF) were decided 0.3wt.% and 4.0mg/g respectively by testing surface tension, contact angle and CFs dispersion volume. In addition, the surface charges of modified CFs were quantitatively analyzed using Faraday cup; the surface morphology of modified CFs were investigated by Field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). The results show that the positive charges on the unmodified CFs surface are changed to negative with the increase of EPS adsorption amount. Optimal dispersion effect of the short CFs in epoxy matrix can be achieved when the surface charges reach the maximum, which prove the same variation regularity is obtained the CF surface charge properties and its dispersion behavior. Finally, the results further illustrate that the ability of CFs dispersing in the matrix can be judged by measuring the CFs surface charges conveniently and apparently.
