Nowadays, electric arc furnace(EAF)has become one of the most important steel-making equipments in the field of metallurgy. The paper makes emphases on introducing the present state and perspective of EAF power-supply strategy from the beginning of the equipments, the technique and the history of development of EAF steel-making on the basis of consulting a great deal of documents. It makes clear that the research of EAF power-supply strategy is a significant direction of the field of EAF research. The paper shows the inevitability of high-impedance ultra high power(UHP)EAF compared with the common EAF on the electric point of view and points out that high-impedance will play a more pivotal role in steel-making. Synthesizing mechanism deduction and statistical modeling, on the research of field electric parameter data, a nonlinear operating reactance model is established by hybrid modeling approach, which is in the background of some 40-Ton high-impedance UHP EAF.By in-depth research on electrical and thermal characteristics and energy balance of the smelting process of EAF, staged model and integrated model for power-supply of EAF are established on the base of considering energy consumption, tap-to-tap cycle, electrode loss and furnace wall corrosion, whose target is to minimize the cost of steel-making.According to the characteristic of power-supply model, an improved Genetic Algorithms is introduced and adopted to solve the problem. The optimal result proves that new optimal model for power-supply of EAF accords with practice and can solve the problems of selecting work voltage, work reactance and work current effectively. Finally, according to actual condition of some 40-Ton high-impedance UHP EAF, a power curve is worked out based on the optimized result of integrated power-supply model.
