The Building Of Landscape Plant Database Originated In Landscape Architects' Design Process

The number of study of plant database is increasing,however,there are little database couldprovide effective information. And some professional books even not provide effective informationwhich always used by designers. Considering sufficiently the site conditions and ecological habits, andbased on the design procedure and thinking habit of the designers, it studied the attributes of the plants.And at the same time, it analyses the constructive effect of the attributes of the plants on the space oflandscape architecture. All those are prepared for the plant database.The study follows the next steps and gets the conclutions.First step, based on the existing theories and methods of planting design at home and abroad,it putforward a reasonable way of theories and methods of planting design and the procedure, which as thetheoretical base of the plant database; Secondly, based on the way that landscape architecture designersuse the plants, the paper adopts Delphi approach for 3 times to establish the most important plantingelement which the designers usually used. By analysis the element of the landscape and studying theeffect of the plant's attributes on the landscape element. At last it got the effective information which isthe reference for the designers; The third, surveying the plant usually used in Yangtze River delta region,arranged the catalogue. According to the survey of first step, it supplied the important element.Then,it got a list of the plants as the basic information for the plant database; Fourth,it studied theprevious research of the database. In this system SQL Server is used as the database back-end, choosingDelphi7 for database developing.
