From the twentith century, the development of Reinforced Concrete silo becoming fast and widely in differernt industy fields, such as light industry,metallurgy,electric power,coal,building materials,food supplies and so on. However, with the rapid development of China's economy, the single silo could not satisfy the requirement of warehouse capacities. At this time, the group silos combining which by several single silos were born and replaced single silo in engineering fields, which have achieved emarkable social and economical benefits.Although Reinforced concrete silo has developed fast in domestic, and also widely used at home and abroad, but the problems of silo earthquake research are not performed deeply, especially group silos. Currently seismic design and distributed steel for group silos are based on single silo or detailing requirements and empirical theory to undertake, not on the whole group silos for seismic calculation. Due to the interaction between silo and silo in the group silos, which is not completely equal to single silos, also can not through the single silo superposition of calculation, which brings a lot of problems about the construction and design for group silos.China is a country which has extensive distribution of earthquakes between the Mediterranean and the Pacific coast seismic zones. Hence it is necessary to research more about group silos in the action of earthquake modal properties, dynamical lateral pressure and the structure of the elastic-plastic phase based analysis.The paper takes transit grain reserves in Zhoushan provincial projects and Shanghai Waigaoqiao Foodstuff Storage and dock establishment as the engineering background, simulation and analysis on silo supported by cylinder and silos supported by columns are performed. According to the purpose and content of the issue, the following studies are mainly carried out in the paper.1. Taking the transit grain reserves in Zhou Shan provincial projects and Shanghai WaiGaoqiao Foodstuff Storage and dock establishment as the engineering background,models of silos supported by cylinder and columns are established ( including single and group silos).2. Using finite element software to build the model of single and group silos in empty and full conditions for earthquake modal analysis. dynamic characteristic and response( the vibration period, frequency, modal) of the single silo and group silos in empty and full conditions are analyzed. And analysis to movement patterns of silo structures at low frequency and high frequency is also performed.3. Dynamic response of single silo and group silos under different earthquake intensity is analyzed, comparison between its response characteristics and design standard has been done.4. Variation law of side pressure acting on the wall of the silo in height by storage for both single and group silos models are researched.5. The comparison and analysis between cylindrical silo supported by cylinder and cylindrical silos supported by columns in relevant seismic performance are studied.After analysis to reaction of silos supported by cylinder and columns under earthquake load by finite element software, it is indicated that group silos have better performance in seismic resistance, which could meet the requirement for the seismic fortification demands in each stage; cylindrical silo supported by cylinder is better than cylindrical silos supported by columns in seismic behaviors.
