Research Of Greenway Construction

These years, based on the livable urban and rural construction, Guangdong provincial party committee and provincial government has decided to speed up the development of the Greenway Construction in Pearl River Delta, in order to gather experience for regional Greenway assignment and management. In Jan.2010,Master Planning Outline for Greenway Construction in Pearl River Delta was unveiled, which clearly defines that Guangdong will construct six regional greenways with the total length of 1678 km in three years` time from 2010. Meanwhile, all cities in Guangdong shall make plans for their own city and community greenways and form a multilevel greenway system linking urban and rural areas in Pearl River Delta. Greenways, starting quite recently in China, lack mature planning and technical guidelines in design. Based on the history of greenways, this article illustrates its origin and introduces constructional conditions of greenways in Slovenia, Japan and other countries. It also lists the researches and practical experiences about greenways in China.With the experience of those countries and relative standards, guidelines and actual cases home and abroad, this article illustrates the concept, components, categories and functions of greenways and summaries the content and methods for greenways planning. This article emphasizes on the design and construction of main components of greenways. Some actual cases are provided in the article, in order to guide the designing main points, engineering construction and maintenance of greenways. Panyu, the new city of Guangzhou and Asian Games Village for the next Asian Games, tries to build a 210km greenway within three years. The basic establishment of this greenway in Panyu is expected to be finished before the 2010 Asian Games. In 2011 this greenway will be finished and in 2012 it will be mature and perfect. Thus, based on the above methods and technical guidelines, this article introduces the immediate plan and construction of greenway in Panyu in the last chapter.
