Chinese is researching and developing the technology of CTCS-3 to improve the speed of train and efficiency of railway transportation. Traffic lines for passenger which from Wuhan to Guangzhou, Zhengzhou to Xian and Beijng to Shanghai have decided to use CTCS-3 train control system. CTCS-2 train control system is the backup system of CTCS-3 train control system. Under some conditions, train needs to change form CTCS-3 train control system to CTCS-2. There are many differences between CTCS-2 train control system and CTCS-3 train control system on both equipment and speed. Thus, it's necessary to resolve the compatibility between them in system design.This paper studies on characteristics of CTCS-2 train control system and CTCS-3 train control system, researches their similarities and differences, especially on problems of balise setting on CTCS-3 line, level transition between CTCS-2 and CTCS-3 and non-normal degradation process under fault condition about compatibility. CTCS-2/3 compatibility simulation environment was built on the CTCS-3 train control system simulation & testing platform based on HLA. The main work of this paper as follows:1. This paper concludes and analyzes compatibility problems between CTCS-2 train control system and CTCS-3 train control system. Besides, it researches on the solution of these problems.2. CTCS-2/3 compatibility simulation environment was built on the CTCS-3 train control system simulation & testing platform based on HLA. This paper researches on function of simulators and mutual information among simulators under the CTCS-2/3 compatibility simulation environment.3. This paper designed a case to verify the compatibility problems and solutions that focus on level transition balise setting, single balise set in a balise group, level transition process, vechicle communication fault degrade process and RBC equipment fault degrade process.
