In recent years, the highway construction and road transportation in Wuhan City have develop considerably. However, many problems exist in highway maintenance work in Wuhan city, which would make the operating quality, technological condition and service level of highway out of protection and affect the sustained, rapid and healthy development of highway and entire national economy seriously. A highway maintenance management station, as a basic execution unit in highway maintenance tasks, plays a very important role in highway maintenance. The rationality of the layout of the highway maintenance management station will determine the most optimum distribution of the tense maintenance resources. In order to reduce maintenance cost, there is an important practical significance in layouting the highway maintenance management station rationally.Firstly, the current situation of highway maintenance management stations in Wuhan City is analyzed and evaluated and the problems are found out. Secondly, the operation content of highway maintenance management station is defined further. Lastly, a planning of the construction scale and machine layout of highway maintenance management station is made.The economic maintenance scale of highway maintenance management station is researched. Firstly, the consist of highway maintenance cost is analyzed and two charge factors of maintenance management station setup expense and material transport expense which influence unit length highway maintenance cost are put forward. Secondly, the economic maintenance radiuses of road segment and road network are analyzed separately and the measuring method of economic maintenance radius is provided. Finally, the meaning of economic maintenance radius is elaborated.On the basis of the research of economic maintenance scale, analyzing some kinds of main constraints influencing the location of highway maintenance management station, such as maintenance material technology limited distance, labor intensity limited distance, transportation conditions and environmental effect, synthetically integrating the basic theories of graph theory, shortest path, multi-source discrete location selection and mixed integer programming, the methods of simplifying road network, determining the location of highway maintenance management station and demand point of maintenance are presented and the location selection model of highway maintenance management station which considering the full utilization of the regional existing highway maintenance station and making the minimum sum of the maintenance management station setup expense and material transport expense is established. The location and maintenance scope of the maintenance management station can be determined by solving the model.Based on the actual situation of Wuhan City, The location selection model is solved by LINGO software and genetic algorithm. Comparing the results of the two algorithms, the layout scheme of highway maintenance management station is put forward.The layout method of highway maintenance management station is tested and verified in road network of Wuhan City with a relatively ideal result, which can provide the theory basis for layouting the highway maintenance management stations in other areas.
