Gothic-style architecture represents the highest achievements of European medieval art. It originated in France in 12th century and come to prevalence in Europe in 12-15 century, connecting Roman and Renaissance. As a monument of architectural history, Gothic architecture is more than just the phenomenon of high Building. It is a comprehensive breadth of the phenomenon of civilization. So for the art study of Gothic architecture should also be multiangle. In this paper, the Cologne Cathedral as the starting point of the historical background, development, construction features, humanities and social, religious and other perspective of Gothic architecture were analyzed in order to fully demonstrate the art of Gothic features and its artistic achievements. This is why Gothic architecture can rule the modeling arts for four hundred years in Europe, and later have profound implications for a variety of art forms, one of the most important factor is the age in which the Christian religion is the Middle Ages in Western Europe the heyday of architectural history. Gothic architecture achieves medieval Christian perfect combination of philosophy and art. The pyramid roof, flying buttresses structure, rose window, architectural features, classic columns and sculptures are all reflected the religious spirit as a "house of God," therefore, the soul of Gothic architectural styles already beyond the building itself but in its hidden artistic forms of Christian thought and belief.
