The Research On Artistic Style And Application Of Window Lattices Of Huizhou Architecture

The art of window lattices of Huizhou architecture came into being in the Song Dynasty,and prospered in the Ming Dynasty and the Qing Dynasty.As a highly mature art form,it took shape under the joint influence of various factors,including the cultural environment of the ancient Huizhou,the booming economy thanks to Huizhou merchants,thoughts of Neo-Confucianism,and techniques of Huizhou print.This art form embodies local people’s yearning for wonderful things and their pursuit of pure,simple,and natural artistic features.Besides,it conveys rich imagination of ancient folk craftsmen in their artistic creation.Ornamentation on window lattices,which is finely-carved and in different shapes,still gives off light of art and carries multi-layered aesthetic value despite vicissitudes in the long history.Therefore,it’s of great theoretical and practical significance for us,in our action of carrying forward and passing on fine traditional Chinese culture,to do in-depth research on cultural connotations and the aesthetic value of this art form.In this article,research techniques,including doing field research,and consulting historical files,literature as well as data,were adopted in the systematic research on the art of window lattices of Huizhou architecture.Taking a general look at the article,we can find that it includes the following four parts.In the first part,the purposes and the meaning of this research were defined.The author summarized the current condition of domestic and foreign research,and clarified contents,the logical frame as well as main innovation points of this research.In the second part,the author traced the source of the art of window lattices of Huizhou architecture in the perspective of artistic designing by doing an in-depth and detailed research on the development history of window lattices of Huizhou architecture,functions of window lattices,reasons for the formation of the culture of window lattices,and art themes.In the third part,the author,under the guidance of tectonic,typological,and sociological theories,analyzed styles and characteristics of this art form in terms of forms of pattern composition,technical characteristics,and features of environmental art.In the fourth part,the author summarized application principles of this art form in the field of modern design,and inspirations for design aesthetics,material engineering,and the study on folklore.Also,the author discussed,in an in-depth way,how it was inherited and applied in the architecture appearance design,the indoor decoration design,the design of fabric and dermatoglyphic patterns on clothes,as well as my master’s graduation design.As one of the art forms unique to the folk art in the region of Huizhou,it has aesthetic value with rich cultural connotations,and it is a treasure,which has been passed on to this day,in Huizhou culture.In today’s society where science and technology is developing rapidly,traditional handcrafts are gradually replaced by machine manufacturing.The artistic carving of window lattices of Huizhou architecture is also on the verge of being lost.Therefore,the author traced the origin of the art and its development course,analyzed forms of pattern composition,technical characteristics,and features of environmental art,as well as finished a research and discussion on its cultural connotations and aesthetic meanings by summarizing literature in a detailed way,making field visits,and doing thorough analysis.This will certainly help "shapes"and "the spirit" of traditional ornamentation on window lattices integrate into "concepts" and "realms" of the modern decorative design,which will form a design context combining the traditional with the modern,and bring a strong visual effect as well as great artistic appreciation.This will offer guidance as well as inspirations to the development of modern artistic designing,and show new ways to inherit the traditional art culture of window lattices of Huizhou architecture.
