As one kind of traditional culture, Feng Shui is a subject about people and the environment. The purpose of it is to pursue ausplciousness and avoid inauspiciousness. It concerned about humanity's sense to the environment, and explore the harmonious relations between constructions of the choice of sites, location, layout and nature, human destiny. The ultimate goal is to prudent investigation of topography and natural environment, it use and change the nature moderately and create an environment for humanity's living, survival and development. Feng Shui is a summary of the long-life experience.The core of Feng Shui is "Qi".During the process of looking for the ideal environment of "hiding wind and gathering air", it formed a series of operation method about how to seek appropriate mountain, sand, water, point and direction. The Yin Yang, Si Xiang, Wu Xing and Ba Gua are used in practice of Feng Shui as reference parameters when to inspect position and recognize terrain.First, the paper talks about the framework, systems, factions and scientific connotation of Feng Shui theory, and at the same time combining with the examples to prove that it has a profound impact on traditional Chinese society, which includes the city, the house, the garden, the tomb and so on. Chapterâ…¡makes a comparative analysis of the process of formation, development and systematic formation of both Feng Shui and traditional gardens. This explain that Feng Shui theory and garden activities developed at the same time. Chapter III use Feng Shui theory to analyze the location, layout and other inherent patterns of the traditional gardens with many examples, proving the significance of Feng Shui is very large, the application of Feng Shui is very broad.Chapterâ…£discusses that Feng Shui is also affected by Taoism, Buddhism, Confucianism in its process of development and combined with religions to directly guide the traditional garden activities. In addition, from literature, painting, and famous writing "Gardening", we can also see that Feng Shui has tremendous impact on the gardens. Chapter V analyzes two concrete examples, including the royal garden "Summer Palace" and the private garden "Lingering Garden", to check out how has the Feng Shui theory been used in the traditional gardens.This thesis analyzes the guiding role of Feng Shui theory when it impacted on site selection and space layout of the traditional gardens from an objective and scientific perspective. The goal of this thesis is to dig out the ideological roots of the traditional gardens, and provide reference and assistance of researching the possibility of applying Feng Shui theory in the modern landscape in the future.
