Feng Shui theory and Chinese classical garden are both Chinese precious cultural heritage. Widely distributed in Jiangsu and Zhejiang province, Jiangnan garden plays an especially important role in Chinese classical garden system.As one of Chinese important traditional culture, Feng Shui theory aims to understand natural environment and reform it into a more livable resident space though Chinese traditional science. Feng Shui theory is widely applied in various fields, such as location survey and site selection. It plays an important role in urban planning and site selection of village, residence and garden since ancient time. Its idea of seeking perfect balance between human and natural environment is just in accord with the construction idea of Chinese classical garden. As an important component of Chinese "Shan-Shui" culture, modeling natural mountain and water landscape in a limited space is a basic character of Jiangnan garden. Obviously, there is close connection between Feng Shui theory and Jiangnan garden study.There are already many research achievements about Feng Shui theory and Jiangnan garden, but most of them are separated studies and might be hard for reference and application in most circumstance. This article aimed to introduce the relationship between Feng Shui theory and Jiangnan garden elements though a great deal of literature reading on Feng Shui theory and field investigation on Jiangnan garden. It combined theory and practice to analysis how Feng Shui theory had influenced Jiangnan garden construction and the relationship between them.From the layout of the site and landscape space of Jiangnan gardens, through literature review and finding out related discussions on the relation of Feng shui theory and layout of Jiangnan gardens, combined with the case study about existing excellent gardens in Jiangnan regions, such as Lingering Garden, Humble Administrator’s Garden, the Nets Garden, etc. Clarified the layout pattern and meaning of the location of Jiangnan gardens under the guidance of Feng shui theory. This article took Feng Shui theory and Jiangnan garden elements as a whole for study, which will contribute to more pointed and scientific reparation on classical garden according to literature and material. What’s more, related theories can also be applied on modern landscape design.
