With the rapid development of China's economic construction, the electric network structures become more and more complex. People are caring more and more about the safety and stability of electricity. So the residual current circuit breaker (RCCB) is widely used to prevent electrical accident and protect people's life. However, for many years, the RCCB used in China is dominated by foreign producers. The imported control chip of RCCB is not suitable for China's electrical situation, and is poor in control precision, such as RCCB are subject to the interference mistaking action frequently, which seriously influences the installation rate of residual current protector. In order to change the status and replace imported chips, the Institute of Microelectronics and Optoelectronics, Zhejiang University design "ZD" series control chips that have high control precision, anti-interference, Intellectual property and some other advantages.The ZD series residual current protector ASIC contains two chips:one is ZDHB, used in household leakage protector; the other is ZDZB, used in general-level leakage protector. The two chips used in conjunction can supply main-middle-user three level leakage protection. The chips have been designed and implemented on CSMC 0.6um Mixed CMOS process, but there are some shortages in the chips, such as large layout area, poor performance in some function, lack of ESD protection and so on. On the basic of existing ZD chips, the paper analyzes the chip's character, and introduces the method how to fix the chip's shortage. In addition, the paper also presents the design ideas of the chip's application circuit. The technique that including isolate strong electric and weak, improve the function of anti-interference of high harmonics and EMC radiation is used in application circuit design.The new ZD chips are design and implemented on CSMC 5V 0.5um Mixed CMOS process. The chips have been tape out for three times, test is successful, the performances of the chips are improved greatly, and the cost is less. Besides, the RCCB used the ZD control chips has passed the national standard test programme and the EMC test.
