Compared with Western architecture,the Chinese ancient buildings system has a long history, the vast amount of ancient architecture, ancient architecture with rich content,it is a unique structural system,has the artistic value, historical value and the scientific value. As an integral part of our cultural heritage,Chinese ancient timber architecture occupies an important position not only in the Chinese traditional culture but also in the history of the world architectural.At the present,the construction of socialist modernization is in full swing.There are many daunting tasks awaiting us to complete,And doing our best to cherish and protect these monuments to avoid being destroyed is an important part of the tasks.How to inherit and develop the the construction techniques and the cultural connotations is a challenge and responsibility to us as a structural engineering worker.However before the research of ancient timber architecture was not deal with the architecture science but history and art.Therefore,the study on the structural performance,especially on the anti-seismic features of the ancient architecture is significant.The ancient Chinese Palace was selected as a research object,Based on introducing the structure system of ancient timber architecture, Through the research approaches of the theoretical analysis and numerical simulation.We study its unique structural characteristics,then focuse on the analysis of the Seismic Performance.Then the three-dimensional FEM of the test model and the contrast model were established by the ANSYS software.Then finished the finite element analysis and compared the results of theoretical and research.Finally, the ideal and expected results is acquired.Meanwhile, according to the structural performance of ancient timber architecture,we could provide the theoretical supports for the strengthened method of ancient buildings.research, These studies will take important part in modern building construction.In this paper, based on a brief overview of the development and the features of the ancient buildings.First,do a simple analysis of the structural system and the mechanical properties through the methods of the classical mechanics.Then according to the relevant research literature and the construction data.Focused on the theoretical research and analysis of the structural characteristics and seismic performance of the ancient buildings.The main contents and conclusions of the text are as follows:The Chinese ancient timber architecture has good structural performance,especially the seismic performance. The local components model and the overall construction model were established by the ANSYS software.The analysis and comparison of the structural performance and seismic performance was done by the ANSYS software.The final outcome of the study shows that the Chinese ancient timber architecture has good structural performance and the seismic performance.
