Research On Design Theory Of The Elderly-aid Products

With the development of science and technology, the improvement of products and medical standards of living, the average human life expectancy becomes longer, human society is entering the aging era. According to statistics, at the end of 2009, China's population which aged 60 and over exceed 167 million and account for 12.5% of the total population. This data has exceeded the international standards of the aging society. That means China has entered the aging society.Although the aging society is the symbol of improvement of living standards, but at the same time, it has brought many unprecedented opportunities and challenges, such as social development, economic growth, industrial structure, culture and other aspects. How to solve a series of problems which aging population caused is the major challenges which our country facing. The development of the elderly-aid products is one of the important issues mentioned above. That because the elderly-aid products will not only reduce social pressures by help old people solve some"obstacles"which caused by aging, but also stimulate economic growth by generate a great potential"silver market". But for now, our country's product is still in the primary stage both in R&D and design theory, lagging far behind the development of an aging society. Therefore, it seems more and more urgent and important to research the design theory of the elderly-aid products.The paper entitled"Research on Design Theory of the Elderly-aid Products". The author firstly analyzed the characteristics of the old people and characteristics of the elderly-aid products. Then the author selected the"barrier-free design of the elderly-aid products"as the key point for the paper. On the basis of the barrier-free theory the author summarized the basic Principles and specific strategies of barrier-free design of the elderly-aid products.In the first chapter, explains the background and research content and methods of the thesis. In the second chapter, after define and divide the elderly, the author analyzed the characteristics of old people, such as physical characteristics, psychological characteristics, social characteristics, and so on. In the third chapter, firstly, interpret the meaning of barrier-free design and the elderly-aid products. On this basis, the author analyzed development status and forecasted the development trend of the elderly-aid products. Then, the fourth chapter is the core of the paper. Using accessible design concept as the guiding ideology, combining with the second chapter, the author summarized principles of barrier-free design in the elderly-aid products, and proposed specific strategies for each principle. The author hope that this paper can be a good reference and play a positive role to the research of the elderly-aid products design in the future.
