With the rapid development of the national economy, the issue of power quality has been paid more and more attention by the whole society. On the one hand there are numbers of non-linear loads in the power system, on the other hand a large number of harmonics are injected into the power system, making the power quality is deteriorating. In addition, users'demands for steadiness of power supply are getting higher and higher, because many precision electronic and power electronic devices, which are based on the control of computers and microprocessors, are easily affected by the change of power quality. Consequently, modern industry proposes higher requirements on power quality.Power quality monitoring is the main means to discover and analyze the problems related to power quality. According to IEC and national standards, and based on the research in power quality at home and abroad, this dissertation focuses on the designing of a power quality monitoring system based on DSP and ARM dual-core processor, offering the decision basis for the improvement of power quality and the diagnosis of the power system fault. This paper first introduces the research history and current situation in the realm of power quality, power quality monitoring indices (including power system voltage deviation,frequency deviation,harmonic,voltage fluctuation and flicker,three-phase voltage unbalance), national standards and the method of analyzing power quality. Then this paper introduces the designing of hardware and software system of the power quality monitoring system which is based on TI's OMAP-L137 dual-core low-power applications processor. In the part of the designing of software system, the thesis focuses on how to use the DSP unit to measure the indicators of the power quality; then makes a simulation for flicker measurement with MATLAB. At the same time, the analysis of the ARM's software system design is also offered in this part. Finally, it analyses the measured data of some power quality indices. Moreover, an error analysis for the power quality monitoring system is also presented.The design of the power quality monitoring system in this paper mainly utilizes DSP, which is powerful in data processing, and ARM, whose strength is in the field of network communication. Thus, it realizes the concentrated management of the power quality monitoring data, satisfying the requirements of monitoring power quality. The actual results of measurement accord to the precision requirement of national standards.
