Since the 1980s, our country has accelerated the pace of highway construction and Guangdong Province more so. However, under the influence of traffic load and natural factors, the performance of some asphalt pavements decreased gradually in the province, while the volume of traffic have increased year by year and been far beyond their designed capacity. That caused traffic congestion serious, low level of road service. Order to solve it some maintenance measures have been taken, such as intermediate maintenance, heavy maintenance and overlay , to ensure the road normal service levels. Therefore, how to use advanced technology to enhance asphalt pavement maintenance work, reduce maintenance costs, maintenance pavement quality, and minimize pavement maintenance fund to optimize pavement performance, is the key to road maintenance. In this dissertation, research is conducted focusing on the key technology in intermediate maintenance, heavy maintenance, overlay and reconstruction of asphalt pavement. The main conclusions are listed below:(1)Based on the summary of several asphalt overlay design methods commonly used at home and abroad, some design main points of principles, steps, thickness calculation and overlay drainage design in our asphalt pavement overlay design methods were described in detail. And the technology of waterproof and anti-cracking in overlay interlayer also were studied, including rubber asphalt gravel and modified asphalt mortar. Through comparative analysis the performance, application conditions and cost-benefit of several common asphalt concrete, some types of concrete overlay, which fit with Guangdong Province, were put put forward.(2)Some projects investigation were implemented in Kai-yang freeway intermediate maintenance and Guang-fo freeway heavy maintenance, to sammary the project characteristics, old road evaluation, design, application effect and practical experience of maintenance projects.(3)The choices of timing and design of Rutine maintenance, preventive maintenance, intermediate maintenance and heavy maintenance were studied. And Conjunction with the standard countermeasure, Treatment methods and traffic classification, the standard countermeasure model of medium maintenance, overhaul, overlay and reconstruction of asphalt pavement were proposed. On the base of the investigation results of related projectds, reasonable thickness and proposed structure of asphalt pavement overlay for Guangdong Province high-grade highway were put forward by full accounting of the factors of natural climate condition and typical diseases of the Guangdong Province. Deeply studies also were taken for the design steps of intermediate maintenance and heavy maintenance of asphalt pavement.(4)The construction technology of intermediate maintenance and heavy maintenance of asphalt pavement were descriped in detail. Those include the disease treatment of old pavement, anti-cracking bond layer in overlay, pavement widening design and construction. And the technical measures that aim to improve the performance of asphalt pavement were discussed.
