In order to save energy, reduce emission and adapt to coal variation, it is crucial to manage sootblower efficiently. This essay is going to change scheduled cleaning into intelligent cleaning, which based on a real-time heat transfer surface fouling monitoring. Modeling here, for convection, derives from artificial neural network. In the convection part, a detailed description of how to employ ANN in coal-fired utility boiler has been presented. Also, this description includes data filtering, parameters picking, case sensitive test and network validation, which serves as a guide to ANN modeling after.Monitoring model has been set up through lots of analysis and trained by sample data. A solution to previous problem, like fouling curve sudden-jump, has been addressed. Data filtering and case sensitive have helped to improve simulation accuracy.A domestic 300MW utility has been served as the research subject, based on which both hardware and software configurations have been developed. The software has been developed in Object Pascal on Delphi. Database part employs Microsoft SQL Server. And the real time link between Matlab and the software is done by DLL. The communication of Microsoft OS and the software has been achieved by ODBC. Finally, visualization of fouling rate serves to guide operator.
