The objective of building a conservation orinted society poses new challenges to coal-fired power plant for its high energy cost and environmental influence. So it is important to study the heat-economy strategy detailedly for energy conservation and operation optimization. This paper was based on the "National Basic Research Program of China": Fundamental research on energy conservation of large-scale coal-fired power generating unit. In this paper, two major works were accomplished by studying a sub-critical 600 MW power generating unit.In the first part, an energy consumption distribution was gained based on the "Specific Consumption Analysis" theory, which inludes specific consumptions of different devices under different loads. In view of this distribution, energy saving space and key energy saving parts were pointed out.In the second part, following the concept of "Specific Consumption Sensitivity" the quantitative relationship between energy consumption and thermal parameters was analysed. Attempting to change the general method which ignoring variable conditions analysis, an all conditions system analytical model was established. Specific Consumption Sensitivity was carried out with C++ Builder 6.0 software to indicate influence of thermal parameters on energy consumption distribution. The parameters included main steam temperature and pressure, reheat steam temperature, back pressure, turbine efficiency and heater teminal temperature different upside. There are two contributions in this paper:for one thing, Specific Consumption was taken as a benchmark to show the constitution and variation of energy consumption distribution in large coal-fired units. For another, considering the correlation of different equipments under varialbe operation conditions, the effect on energy distribution of thermal parameters was indicated. The effect was shown from different viewpoints of systems, equipments and loads, which provided more evidences for thermal economic analysis and diagnosis.
