Coal industry is the foundation of our national economy, especially in Shanxi province, it is the pillar industry. We should also notice that our coal industry is confronting with a severe challenge "safety". Nearly every year there were the bad news that mine accidents happened and many miners were hurt or died. Besides showing sympathy, we should find out the real reason for mine accidents, and take certain measures to prevent future tragedies. Work safety is the most important thing in coal industry, and there are many reasons for mine accidents in its production. High concentration mine gas might be the top hidden trouble among others. In order to reduce gas concentration, pneumatic drills are widely used in our coal industry to extract gas in the depth of mine. For that, the performance of pneumatic drill has a great direct influence on the development of our coal industry. Pneumatic motor is the key part of pneumatic drill, its performance and parameters have an immediate impact on the function of pneumatic drill, therefore, it is of the highest importance. This paper deals with a widely-used gear pneumatic motor, calculates its relevant parameters, designs the model of its key parts, and offers a finite element analysis of its static performance and parameters.This paper discusses the advantages of pneumatic motors, its recent development at home and abroad. It illustrates briefly the unique merits of pneumatic motors that no others can match, describes its history and current situation. Compared with the study of pneumatic motors abroad, there still exists a long way to go for our study at home. This paper investigates a safe and widely-used gear pneumatic motor, calculates its main parameters and checks the safety of its key parts according to its working principle. It designs a three-dimensional model of the key parts of pneumatic motor, assembles those parts to show the corresponding structural relations. It also checks the strength of critical parts (gear shaft, connecting flat key, gear motor) through theoretical calculation, and proves that this design agrees to theoretical requirement. At last, this paper offers a finite element analysis of its static performance, obtains data of reference value, and provides information for the later design optimization and production.This paper offers data of parameter reference and practical reference through theoretical analysis, parameter calculation, model designing and finite element analysis. The parameters in this paper could be adopted in the future design and production, to reduce the time waste and material waste by applying experience analogies. This paper is of practical value to the producer and user of gear pneumatic motor, is helpful to improve productivity and ensure productive safety.
