Port handling machinery is the lifeblood of port production, the safety problems of metal structure are port long-standing concern. Metal structures of hoisting machinery load bearing pressure of self weight and external load. Its carrying capacity is directly related to the machine's working performance, security and reliability. Strain gauge measuring technology is usually used to inspect structure strength and evaluate the structure safety or forecast the residual life of metal structure.Usually, hoisting machineries are arranged periodic structure strength testing, and very short time is given for once testing to avoid affecting production efficiency. With the traditional testing method, almost half of time will be consumed to lay and dismantle lots of data cables, which transmit data between strain gauge and data collector, the testing efficiency is low, which will effect the port operation time. The cables are also easy to be interfered by the environment (for example, temperature and electromagnetic interference), testing signal will be interfered. Furthermore, the traditional testing method is unable to get a long-term dynamic stress data, meet the purpose of real-time online monitoring and achieve accurate prediction of structural residual life.On the basis of the analysis of the traditional metal structure stress testing method, a new remote wireless stress monitoring system based on GPRS and WSN is applied in this paper. The TDC technology is used to measure resistance variation, using the power-supply mode of solar and lithium battery. The structures of the wireless sensor node including strain measurement module, processor module, wireless communication modules, power supply module are designed and the system software is also introduced. WSN can get rid of cable's bondage, reduce test cost and improve test efficiency, And the GPRS network can transmit the stress data to the remote host to assess the structure's safety in real time, strengthen the security management of metal structure, has the value of popularization.
