In recent years, with the development of modern industry, energy crisis and pollution problems become more and more serious. Because of the exhaustion of fossil oil, new energy sources are obtaining more and more attention. Although, internal combustion engine is the power train of most automobile, but new energy sources power train systems has became a great challenge to the conventional power train system. At the present time, in our country, the researches of new energy power train systems are focus on electric vehicle, hybrid electrical vehicle, fuel cell vehicle and hydrogen engine vehicle, there isn't so much research on other new energy sources. Allowing for the situation, the main contains of this paper is to design and study another new energy source engine-Compressed Air Engine.Considering that it will cost a lot of time to design a new engine, this paper used a engine which has put into production as the prototype engine. In this paper, retrofit method is illustrated, the prototype engine is a 4-stroke single-cylinder petrol engine, the author add a camshaft position sensor and a solenoid valve which is controlled by the single-chip make the engine a electronic controlled Compressed Air Engine.Air supply system uses a cylinder to store compressed air as the"fuel". A pressure regulator is used to reduce the pressure of compressed air to a appropriate proper level. The solenoid valve which is controlled by the single-chip will open at a proper time and last for a proper time to control the amount of the air injected into the engine. The system adopts ATmega16 which is one of the AVR serial single-chips. Finally the author succeed in running the engine. Finally, an experimental study is conducted on the engine to find the variation rule at different injection pressure and injection Pulse-width and a new controlling system is propounded, which is the angle fixed spray controlling system. The result shows that the engine speed will increase by adding injection pressure. The coefficient of utilization of compressed air is higher when the injection is near the TDC.
