With the development of our national economy and the vehicles increasing year by year, the expressway network gradually formed. However, first of all, the highway toll is still charging artificially at present, which make tollbooth become a bottleneck for vehicles to pass rapidly, and because of the disadvantages of artificial charging method, vehicle must be completely stopped to pay cost, which is inefficiently. Secondly, frequent brake and start accelerate abrasion of the vehicle, which may cause hidden traffic trouble, meanwhile, parking to queue and paying fee will waste time and fuel. Exhaust gas also affects the environment. In addition, a few cashiers have the chance to defalcate, which may cause national income loss. For these reasons, research and development of Electronic Toll Collection system become urgent need of China's highway traffic. In Electronic Toll Collection system, vehicle recognition is a very important part. The internal memory of the RFID tag which affixed in the vehicle store a lot of data of the users, such as owner's name, bank account, car number and types, but some owners will change models information by change the tag speculatively. In order to solve the above problems, this paper introduces the correlative research in the following three aspects:1. A preliminary and general understanding of the freeway tolling mode by reading documents and field investigation. Artificial charging system is widely used in our country which has many disadvantages. To solve these problems, Electronic Toll Collection system is researched from its basic principle, organization structure and function.2. A simple introduction to RFID recognition technology at first, then details its working principle and typical structure, finally designs a project for Electronic Toll Collection system with RFID technology.3. In order to avoid cheating on vehicle type, this paper researchs a project of type recogniton method based on fuzzy image recognition technology.
