With the development of computer technology, especially computer graphics, computer aided geometric design and high performance computing and related technologies, Three-dimensional computer-aided design has been in the manufacturing sector has been widely applied. Three-dimensional CAD model of a product has become the base and platform of modern product development, manufacturing, modification and maintenance. However, for national defense safety and enterprise technology secrecy, often in other countries and companies can not get aero-engine blades initial three-dimensional CAD design model. On the other hand, the blade impacted by centrifugal force and high speed airflow leads to blade creeping, so that the serviced blade section and the original design model section will have some difference. Therefore, maintenance enterprises, even if they can get the initial blade design three-dimensional CAD model, but still can not directly use this model to automatically repair the blade based on CAM. Consequently, we need to introduce reverse engineering to build a new blade three-dimensional CAD model after serving. This can provide the basis for the maintenance of specific blades.This paper illustrates how to generate the blade CAD model according to the original point cloud scan data through the point phase, polygon phase and surface phase. Use Geomagic Studio software power function in the polygon and the surface phase to repair the defects on the scanned blade model, and then use Geomagic Studio software to compare the repaired and un-repaired blade models, and we use Geomagic Qualify to size the blade section and blades group, for the further repairs. Geomagic Studio and Geomagic Qualify software makes it easy to surface modeling like engine turbine blades and other complex similar components, which increased the efficiency of the blade repair.Reverse engineering has been used in aero maintenance area just for several years. This paper has explored how to use Geomagic Studio reverse engineering software to surface-construct the blade and how to use Geomagic Qualify to analyze the repaired and un-repaired blade models with the combination of reverse engineering. It's the base of using CAM system to repair the blade automatically. This method realizes automatic blade repair and improves the efficiency. It has a new exploration of aero-engine blade repair.
