The Research On The External Form Design Of Expo Buildings

Expo buildings have a very important position in modern architecture history , especially with the most outstanding influence of the World Expo. As a kind of special building types, the World Expo reflects the architectural features of times in each period, at the same time it also deeply affects the development trends of buildings in the future. And as a highly expressive type of display architecture, the World Expo building should pay more attention to the expression of building connotation. Therefore, this paper chooses the theme of expoto, makes the World Expo building as the breakthrough point and takes an research on external form design of expo buildings.The paper describes the development evolution of the World Expo and its external form, and summarizes the features of the World Expo building. At the same time, it gives a horizontal analysis on the external form design of the contemporary World Expo building, and through the analysis of the typical cases, summarizes the ideas and methods of the external form design of the contemporary World Expo building. And on this basis, the paper makes a preliminary inquiry to the development trend of the external form design of the World Expo building.The whole paper is divided into five parts: The first part of this paper discusses the background of the theme and the significance of the research, defining the object and scope of the study, which is the outline and an overview of the whole paper. The second part describes the history of World Expo briefly, and summarizes the characteristics of the pavilion in the Expo. It also analyzes morphological evolution of t the exhibition buildings since its inception. The third and fourth parts analyze the entire design process of the external shape design of contemporary pavilions in the Expo. The third part is the analysis of the design concept of the external shape design of contemporary pavilions in the Expo. It brings about three main design concepts which impact the external shape design of contemporary pavilions in the Expo: the design concept of contemporary high-tech school, the design concept of contemporary new regionalism, and the design concept of contemporary ecologism. And it analyzes the causes of their appearance and the features which they represent externally. The fourth part is the analysis of the design techniques of the external shape design of contemporary pavilions in the Expo. By selecting representative cases, it studies the performance techniques of their different design concepts. Meanwhile, it further proves the content of the former part by analyzing the living examples. On the basis of the former study, the fifth part takes the preliminary exploration to the development trend of the external morphology of the World Expo building, and puts forward the two possible development directions, which are the diversity and the device of the external form design of the World Expo building.
