Industrial Product Design Process Application Research Based On The Theory Of Usability Engineering

With the progress of science and the development of production technology, high-tech industrial products and our daily lives are more and more closely integrated, especially the unprecedented scale of using mobile phones. Mobile phones, whose functions are becoming more powerful and complete, are getting more intelligent with the technological advances. At the same time, for many users, especially elderly users, many problems come at once, such as the increasing complexity of operation interface, the idle features, the negligence of user psychology in design and so on. All these above, unconsciously, enhance the contradictions between the complexity of product functions and the requirement of easy operation for the elderly.This contradiction is largely due to product usability issues. To solve this contradiction, this paper sets usability engineering theory as an important factor whose core theory is"user centric". It emphasizes that the product development process should focus on the target user tightly and users are suppose to have active participation to provide timely feedbacks, according to which the designers could improve their design again and again. With the guide of the relevant theory of availability, product development processes have clear directions, which are focusing on user requirements tightly from initial design to final completion.Usability engineering theory is often used in software interface design of IT products, but applications in industrial product design are quite few, therefore, this paper interprets the relevant theory of usable engineer from the perspective of industrial product design firstly, and then tries to apply such theories to guide the design of mobile phone (using design of elderly mobile phone as an example) and explore the application of usability engineer theory in product design.Appling usability engineering theory to product design and development is not only a new interpretation of this theory, but also a development of the theory's application fields. Further more, it provide a theoretical reference for industrial product design and development.
